Abi MB (b. 1994, Cedar Rapids, IA) is a painting and mixed media artist. By choosing formal elements, she tries to develop forms that follow the subjective associations and formal parallels, which incite the viewer to make new personal associations.
Her works establish a link between architecture and the landscapes reality and what’s imagined by the conceiver. These works focus on questions that determine our existence. Through a radically singular approach, she investigates the dynamics of landscape, including the manipulation of its effects based on our assumptions of what landscapes means to us. Rather than presenting a factual reality, an illusion is fabricated to capture the realm of our imagination.
Her works are a reflection upon the art of painting itself: control and free form. They are based on formal associations which open a unique poetic illustration. By applying abstraction with spray paint, she uses references and ideas from the universe around us. The images arise in which the fragility and instability are integrated into the process of the composition of the work, that they may escape those who do not take the time to explore how and why these images fascinate you.
Abi MB is a senior currently aiming to receive her B.F.A. in painting with a minor in vocal performance at Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA. She works part time at Local 11ten as a bartender in Savannah’s historic district aside her current projects.
